EXPERT CONNECT: Belle de Crillon, a Magnificent Villa Rental in Provence, France

Wow ... this villa rental is truly paradise in Provence! It's hard to say which is more gorgeous—the house itself or its views. Perched on a hilltop with panoramas of vineyards, orchards and Mont Ventoux (the dreaded climb of Tour de France cyclists), La Belle de Crillon is a five-story, 6,000-square-foot stone mansion with 6 bedrooms that sleep up to 12 people. It's a wonderful spot for a few couples to share, or for families with older children. Located in the scenic village of Crillon le Brave, 24 miles northeast of Avignon, the villa is a glorious base for a Provençal holiday full of wine tastings, shopping, antiquing, and dining out (don't miss the acclaimed restaurant at Hotel de Crillon, which is within walking distance). Keep Belle de Crillon in mind for a special occasion, such as an important birthday or wedding anniversary celebration. 

Although grand in scale, the home has rustic touches like wood beamed ceilings, yet the decor is very sophisticated, with lots of chandeliers and antique or French country furnishings. Each floor has a sitting room with a fireplace, and each bedroom has very nice ensuite bathrooms, satellite TV, direct-line telephones, and wall safes. They also all have fabulous views. My favorite bedroom is the one on the first floor with a fireplace, claw-foot bathtub and private balcony. Don't worry about climbing up and down staircases, as Belle de Crillon has an elevator!

Cook up a meal in the gourmet kitchen, and then enjoy it on the wrap-around terrace, which has a dining patio, chaises and a heated plunge pool. Ask the caretaker Alex to fetch you a bottle from the wine cellar; he prepares breakfast each morning, and is available to cook other meals for you and even teach cooking lessons. A daily housekeeper is also provided. Rentals run from Saturday to Saturday. One hour from the airports at Marseille and Nimes.
