Fasano Rio
Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Rio's first world-class contemporary design hotel has finally arrived—and right across from Ipanema beach, no less. After the success of Rogério Fasano's first hotel in São Paolo, Brazil's most stylish restaurateur has brought his Midas touch—and that of the seemingly ubiquitous Philippe Starck—to Rio's iconic shores, and an international fashion crowd has followed suit. Bossa Nova tunes and Mid-Century furniture are among the references to Ipanema's heydays of the '50s and '60s. The 82 rooms and 10 suites are sleek yet beachy, with tropical wood furnishings, leather club chairs and lots of natural light—and the complimentary Havaiana flip-flops are a fun touch! Take note that most standard rooms and bathrooms are on the small side—and you won't get a tub unless you book a suite with a Jacuzzi; all rooms come with a work desk and Wi-Fi, as well as a private terrace, but if you're going to stay at the Fasano, do whatever it takes to reserve one with ocean views. Otherwise get your panoramic fix by soaking in the infinity pool on the amazing rooftop terrace and bar. Be sure to ask the top-notch concierge staff to book you a coveted table at Fasano al Mare restaurant, which serves Mediterranean inspired seafood and is helmed by an Italian chef brought in from the three-Michelin-star Enoteca Pinchiorri in Florence, and then stay up late with the beautiful locals living it up at the lobby's retro Baretto/Londra bar.
Room rates from $620.
