Get Wrapped Up in Maine's Finest Blankets

It's always a pleasure to discover products steeped in time-honored traditions, infused with a quality that simply refuses to fall victim to modern technology or crass commercialism—such is the case with the soft and cozy wool creations from Swans Island Blankets. The small weaving operation was the vision of Boston lawyers John and Carolyn Grace, who in the early 1990s launched their enterprise on Swans Island, off the coast of Maine's Acadia National Park, and built it into a successful business. At every turn, the Graces stayed true to their original promise of keeping everything as authentic as possible: hand-reared sheep, homemade organic dyes, weaving on hand looms, wool from rare black and brown sheep—all of which contributed to creating beautiful blankets. The company has grown and now operates out of Northport, still working with local farmers, weavers and finishers. While the core collection is hand-woven summer and winter blankets, it now also includes baby blankets, throws, pillows, wraps, and scarves. Recent additions to the line include merino scarves and throws and rediscovered greens and yellows, all hand dyed with natural colors made right in the studio.
Blankets from $495.
