Hotel V, a Chic Boutique Hotel in Andalusia, Spain
Véjer de la Frontera, Cadiz, Spain

Leave the kids at home and have an Andalusian affair at Hotel V, a new boutique hotel in the hillside village of Véjer de la Frontera on Southern Spain's Costa de la Luz, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Formerly a private residence dating back to the 1600s, the Moorish townhouse was restored and reopened in 2008 as a stylish, intimate getaway with just 12 rooms.
Like its whitewashed Pueblo Blanco exterior, the hotel's interiors are mostly minimalist, but accented with antiques, crafts and photography collected by the owner, and the light-filled guestrooms have Wi-Fi, heated floors and spacious contemporary bathrooms. By day you can stroll the narrow streets of the old town, sunbathe on Playa del Palmar, or partake in kitesurfing at nearby Tarifa Bay. The concierge can arrange spa services, golf outings and day-trips to Morocco, but be sure to return to Hotel V by sunset, when you can enjoy tapas and wine on its rooftop terrace, which has a Jacuzzi and phenomenal views—you can even see Morocco off in the distance!
Room rates from €215
Insider tip from Mr & Mrs Smith, one of my trusted resources:
"All rooms at Hotel V are beautiful—so there's no need to worry about being stuck with the chamber that no one wants. Our absolute favorites, though, are rooms 10 and 11. The former, the only room with a terrace, has wonderful views over the hills and down to the ocean, while the latter has high ceilings and a mezzanine level that acts as the ideal sitting area. Its enormous windows and well-chosen antique furniture are real selling points, too."
Visit Mr & Mrs Smith for more tips, photos, and to book a special Suzanne's Files rate—3 nights for the price of 2! Valid for stays until June 30, 2009, Sunday to Thursday only; three-night minimum stay. Subject to availability.
