You may know Florida for its breezy Boca beaches or chill Miami hot spots. But there's a high octane side to the Sunshine State. With a top surfing school, internationally renowned polo club, and the "Harvard" of flight schools, you'll find more than enough activities to keep your adrenaline running.
Private surf lessons
The Florida Surf School, Miami, Florida
It always seems to be summer in Miami—great beaches, warm water, rolling waves—making it an ideal place to learn to surf. The Florida Surf School has top instructors, uses the safest and highest quality surfboards and offers a wide choice of classes and clinics for all skill levels. One of the best ways to learn is with a private instructor—the school offers two-hour classes with one-on-one expert tuition (ideal if you're on a family vacation in Miami and have limited time)—or you can book a day-long Florida Surf Tour and learn at some of the best beaches in South and Central Florida. All equipment is provided; just bring your bathing suit.
$299 for half-day private lesson.

Behind-the-Scenes Tour
Flight Safety Academy, Vero Beach, Florida
One of my friends, a pilot, says this is the "Harvard of flight schools," but you don't have to be a pilot-in-training to enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of Florida's Flight Safety Academy. Located at Vero Beach, 135 miles north of Miami, the academy welcomes anyone with an interest in aviation who wants to see what a real flight school has to offer. You'll meet staff and students, inspect the fleet, and enjoy a flight simulator demo (subject to availability). The tours are free, run Monday to Friday—and if you catch the flying bug, the academy will be more than happy to sign you up for a full training course.

The International Polo Club Palm Beach
Arguably the best polo facility in the United States, the International Polo Club Palm Beach upholds the finest traditions of the sport in a truly magnificent setting. No expense has been spared on creating the ultimate experience for members and visitors. A dramatic palm-lined drive leads to a world-class club—an all-white pavilion with a pool, polo library, spa, fitness center, restaurants, bars, lounges and a children's play area. All eyes, though, focus on the Grandstand Pavilion and three meticulously maintained playing fields which host major events like the US Open Polo Championship and high-scoring Ylvisaker Cup and Gold Cup. Bring a picnic, kick back and enjoy the game as it was meant to be played.
