The Cellars-Hohenort, A Charming Rural Retreat in the Cape Wine Lands

Constantia, Cape Town, South Africa

The Cellars Hohenort, 18th century manor in constantia
Mature wine lovers (read 40+ years old) will love this 18th century building on the forested eastern slopes of Table Mountain, just minutes away from the Constantia wine route. My mother's friends in their late 50's, Edith and Bob Swenters, say this is a “real rural retreat." The Cellars-Hohenort could easily be mistaken for an English country manor. It's got an old school feel—charming antique furnishings and original works of art throughout the house and romantic four–poster beds in the rooms.

Each of the 53 suites offers great views of the surrounding Constantia Valley and the hotel's beautifully landscaped garden. Plenty to keep everyone occupied in this idyllic spot—a tennis court, putting green and two pools provide the physically active with plenty of amusement. For those looking to be pampered, hit the spa and beauty salon. In the evening, there are two restaurants to choose from—at The Greenhouse you'll like the stunning views of the surrounding gardens and mountains, while The Cape Malay restaurant is a hit with both tourists and locals for its traditional fare.

Rates from $134.
